Where can I go in the vehicle?
Just about anywhere in Australia. We encourage you to explore the eastern states in particular as there is more to see and do for your petrol dollar (and time at the wheel) than in the rest of Australia.
You can of course travel to Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Darwin if you wish to see the real "red centre"outback. You can travel north in Queensland as far as Cape Tribulation and south to the cities of Melbourne or Adelaide. If you would like to get even closer to the south pole we also allow you to travel "overseas" to Tasmania and Kangaroo Island!
Our campers are not permitted to travel in Western Australia without our written permission. If the rental duration is suitable for the vast distances involved permission may be noted on the contract by the Ecocampervans representative. Some other routes also have minimum hire requirements for your safety and holiday enjoyment. Mostly these involve trips to the Northern Territory, please ask.
You can go almost anywhere a sealed road leads you within New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory and Tasmania. We also allow travel for up to 50 kilometres on gravel roads, beyond the end of a sealed surface, to enable access to National Parks and camping grounds. The vehicles comprehensive insurance will cover these 50 kilometres, however any travel beyond this distance is strictly prohibited and voids insurance. Please note most companies allow NO use on unsealed roads.
What is the minimum length of hire?
The minimum bookable campervan hire is 7 days and we also offer 3, 4, 5 & 6 day standby hires that can be reserved within 7 days of departure. Standbys are available from our Sydney depot only. Enough time to get out there to close attractions or just a weekend break away.
Where and when will I collect the camper?
The Sydney depot is located in the inner city suburb of Glebe and is only 25 minute taxi ride from the airport. The Cairns depot is located in the city centre and is only a 10 minute taxi ride from the airport. Campers can be picked up and dropped off at prearranged times to suit you:
- between 08:00 and 17:00 Monday to Friday
- between 10:oo and 17:00 Saturday and Sunday
What driver’s licence do I need?
An unrestricted licence held for at lease 12 months and valid for the full length of the rental must be shown at pickup for each person wishing to drive. An overseas drivers licence is fine provided that it’s written in English, otherwise an International Driver’s Licence is also required. Sorry but we cannot hire to provisional licence holders.
What age do you hire to?
Drivers must be between 21 and 75 years of age.
Do you offer one way rentals?
Yes one way hires are available from our Sydney and Cairns bases. The minimum hire is 21 days.
How do I secure my booking?
A deposit of 20% of the cost of the rental, or $250 whichever is greater, can be made to reserve your Ecocampervan. This will happen automatically (with your authorization) when you submit the secure booking form available on our website.
What happens if the vehicle breaks down?
Our campers are well maintained but in the unlikely event of a breakdown you are covered FREE of charge for roadside assistance 24/7 by the NRMA (National Roads and Motorists Association). So even if you run out of petrol, lock the keys in the campervan or need a flat tyre changed you'll get prompt attention FREE of charge. Repairs up to $100 can be undertaken and will be reimbursed on return provided receipts are kept and you are not responsible for the damage. For repairs over $100 authorisation must be obtained by calling 1800 811 646 before work commences.
Will we be insured for unsealed roads?
YES you will be covered for the first 50 kilometres after the sealed road finishes, provided that you are on a road which is properly formed and constructed as a metalled or gravel road. Travel beyond this zone is not permitted and will void the vehicles comprehensive insurance. Your excess liability will NOT increase just because the surface changes. You will frequently need to drive on unsealed roads in Australia to access National Parks, areas of beauty and campgrounds.
Note: Many companies void your insurance or double the excess on unsealed roads. This is not always noticed in the fine print and it is wise to ask what the policy covers.
Will we be covered for a single vehicle accident?
YES your insurance cover is comprehensive and the excess liability will NOT increase. Let's face it there's lots of things to crash into other than vehicles.
Note: Many companies charge twice as much excess in the event of a single vehicle accident.
What if I have an accident?
Any accident must be reported within 24 hours. An accident report must be forwarded to us within 48 hours to allow us to repair the vehicle and process the matter with our insurer. It is important to note that you are liable for all damage costs as the result of an accident, up to the applicable excess.
What is my insurance excess liability?
We have a low excess of $1,000 for drivers aged 25 and over, and $1,500 for drivers aged under 25. The excess applies to each and every incident and will be charge at the time of the accident. Please note if you have an accident, regardless of who is at fault, you will have to pay the excess. If it is later recovered from the other party by our insurer it will be refunded to you. This may take quite some time.
What is the bond?
We process a pre-authorisation on your credit card equal to the insurance excess of the youngest driver and also take a credit card imprint. The pre-authorisation reserves the money in your account for 7 working days and then releases it. The imprint voucher is retained until the vehicle and equipment have been checked on return.
What makes it eco?
Our campervans are an alternative to big motorhomes. They can be expanded at destination to double or treble the living space so the camper you drive retains the aerodynamics and fuel efficiency for which it was designed. We use Toyota Hiaces with automatic transmission because they are better geared for the open road than the manual version! Wherever possible we give you an air conditioning screen so that you only have to cool the drivers cabin when the going gets hot! and you can save on fuel consumption.
Your campervan comes equipped with gear that can be flexibly used by you and recycled by us when the vehicle is updated. We use quality products that last and avoid the resource hungry fitouts.
We don't build in toilets/showers and you will find most people prefer to use the facilities in the camp grounds where the standards are excellent.
We donate a dollar for every campervan rental day to Bush Heritage Australia for the purchase of threatened habitat.
